Why should I invest in a Schuberth C3 Modular Helmet?

schuberth c3 resized 600The Schuberth C3 is a modular helmet that was first introduced in 2006, and as of 2010 it has been available in North America.  It is DOT and ECE 22.05 certified

What makes this the modular helmet that I want to buy?

Let’s look at the features that this helmet boast’s.  It is touted as the lightest modular helmet on the market.  It weighs in at 1650 grams, now for a modular that is light!  They accomplish this weight by their shell construction.  The guys at Schuberth use a proprietary mold design that allows them to make the shell as light as possible without sacrificing strength and durability.  The shell uses there S.T.R.O.N.G fiber construction, which is a combination of materials they have come up with to maximize strength while keeping weight to a minimum.  Because of there shell construction and use the proprietary EPS liner they were able to create an extremely compact shell design.  Along with technologies in the construction of this helmet, they worked in conjunction with there wind tunnel to develop a design that would be aerodynamic, quiet, and very stable at higher speed’s.  Which none of us ever go over the speed limit, NEVER!!

What did they do to make this helmet quieter than most?

schuberth c3 liner resized 600With the use of the wind tunnel Schuberth was able to make the motorcycle helmet streamline to allow for maximum air passage.  Schuberth also figured out that most of air noise comes from the neck area.  For this they came up with the neck roll in the Schuberth C3.  This is a removable, washable piece that fits in the C3 helmet around your neck.  This helps seal of the excess air flow that creates the largest amount of noise.  Schuberth also use a venting system that allows for direct air flow with only two holes in the outer shell which helps to reduce noise and maximize internal helmet air flow.

Ok so the helmet sounds like its light, quiet and fit’s good, but will I be able to see out it?

The main visor has an extremely large field of vision and it comes standard with the Pinlock System.  This is a dual lens system that eliminates your visor from fogging up.  The main visor has strong indents to hold the visor in multiple positions while riding and has a firm locking position to keep it closed.  The C3 helmet also comes with an internal flip down visor, which is positioned to give you ample room for your nose and also comes down to around the cheek bone for full vision coverage.  Now the flip down visor is controlled by a slide lever on the left cheek of the helmet and is made in a way that is easy to use even with gloves on.  Great idea!

Wow, this helmet sounds really good, but I am not quite sold on it.

Ok this helmet is designed for the commuter or the long distance touring guy.  The comfort liner is a cool-max liner which is awesome for keeping you cool and dry.  The main vent system has a closable intake port, and the chin has an open-close vent to allow air flow directly to the lens.  But now the final selling features.  Schuberth has made this helmet 360’ reflective by strategically placing reflective decals for maximum night time visibility to the oncoming traffic.  They also use a system that they call the Anti Roll System.  This reduces the chances of the helmet being removed in an accident unexpectedly, by the placing of two small straps connected to the back of the helmet and the chin strap.  These straps cradle the underside of your jaw when the helmet is being pulled from the back.  Safety first!!!

Anything else that is unique?

This helmet is also compatible with SRC system ( Schuberth-Rider-Communicatuion). This is a Cardo, G4 compatible Bluetooth system that fits right in to replace the existing neck roll.  The installation is simple and can be done in less than 10 minutes.  Man these guys have thought of everything when Schuberth designed the C3 modular helmet!

Ok, I’m sold on it.

BMW F800GS Speed Wobble Problems Resolved! Thanks GPR Stabilizer

describe the image            describe the image

Identifying The Problem:

When I took delivery of my BMW F800GS back in 2009 one of the main issues I had is the softness of the front end and the amount of headshake / speed wobble the bike had. The front end softness is for another blog but in regards to the headshake the bike had while passing 140 KMH (90 MPH) on pavement and at slower speeds on gravel / offroad was becoming a real pain!

Found Solution:

I had taken a customers bike with a stabilizer on it and realized this was something that I had to have! I know stabilizers have been used on most off-road bikes and on road racing bikes with great success but the applications have been limited for other applications.

Problem Resolved:

Well after only 30 minutes I was able to install the GPR V4 steering stabilizer on my 2009 F800GS. I was very impressed by how easy it was to install and how clean it all mounted up.

While I have not had a chance to get the bike out and take it for a road test from my past experience I am very confident that this is going to be exactly the fix I was needing.

Just wanted to post a little feedback as I know many people have had the problems I have experienced with not only the BMW F800GS but others as well. If you are this was a quick simple install that even this desk jockey was able to get done.

2012 Fox Instinct Motocross Boots First Look and In Stock!

fox instinct bootWe just received our first shipment of the much anticipated Fox Instinct motocross boots this week.  They are now avalible in the red and white color only until May when a few more colors are released.

There are so many cool features on this boot I can see why Fox had this boot in the making for 3 years!  Like many of the other "top shelf" boots in this category such as the Gaerne SG12, Sidi Crossfire, the Fox Instinct offer an articulated hinged ankle system which minimizes the break in period.  Another great feature is how low the profile of the boot is which enables easy shifting since you don't have to angle your toes low in order to get under shifter.

These days in motocross it is so important to get a good grip on the frame by squeezing your legs on the frame of the bike.  Well the new Fox Instinct boot has a new material called Duratac on the boots which is really tacky and grips on the frame spars awesome.  This material is also used on the soles of the boots which not only assists in great grip but also prolongs the life of the soles which is something that many boots these days have issues with as footpegs have become larger and sharper.

The closure system is comprised of four-buckles that feature a simple, but effective, ball-and-socket latch design which pivots with flex to ensure buckles remain closed while riding. This allows for easy locking with minimal pressure, even with some debris. The boots also do away with traditional Velcro tabs. Together this allows just the right amount of flex when riding.

Fox Head Canada only received 140 pairs of boots into Canada for this first shipment so supplies are limited and the retail price is $599.99.

Fox V4 Motocross Helmet First Look Pictures!

Fox V4 Motocross HelmetThe wait is almost over as the much anticipated Fox V4 flagship carbon helmet will be availible in Canada March 2012.

Fox Head Canada's Tom Gaetz stopped by the BlackfootDirect.com warehouse this week with the V4 helmet for us to checkout here at BlackfootDirect.com

We were able to take a few pictures and give you some details on what to expect.

Fox V4 Motocross Helmet Carbon Fiber ViewThe first thing I noticed is how light the helmet was! The weight is not published so nothing official, but on our shipping scale (not the most precise) but came in at 1400 Grams.  You can tell that Fox is proud to showcase the quailty materials used in the new V4 helmet such as the Carbon Fibre composite shell construction in the photo.

One other change is that the helmet comes in 4 shell and EPS sizes.  What does this mean you may ask?  Well many helmets only come in a few sizes and the helmet internal size is manipulated by liner size.  So you may have the same shell for a small or large helmet which make some helmets feel like they never quite fit right.

Fox V4 Helmet Mouthpiece

Another cool feature I really liked is the fact is the mouthpiece can be popped out in order to clean the mud out (yes I admit I'm not the holeshot king)!  No more trying to scrape out with a screwdriver and blasting from the inside and out side to get mud out of all the little vent holes.

The helmet will retail for $575 for the Flight Carbon (Black and White) and Future (Red pictured) here and $595 for the Monster and Rockstar branded versions.

Overall the helmet not only looked great but we are impressed with the many upgrades that were made from the previous V3 helmet.  If you are in the market for a true high end motocross helmet that will not only make you look good out on the track but offer great protection then the 2012 Fox V4 helmet is a great choice.

Blackfootdirect.com has pre-booked a order with a March delivery date.  Since there are limited colors and quantities available, we have made an exclusive preorder list available to all customers!
